Another Round Of California Stimulus Checks To Go Out Sept. 17

With $600 Golden State Stimulus payments going out in rounds, as many as 2 million Californians can expect their payment on Friday, Sept. 17.

The payments are part of the state’s $100 billion budget that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed on July 12, with about $12 billion going toward the stimulus checks.

“The Golden State Stimulus is key to lifting up those hit hardest by the pandemic and supporting California’s economic recovery, putting money directly in the hands of folks who will spend it on basic needs and within their local communities,” Gov. Newsom said of the stimulus payments on August 27.

To qualify for the payment Californians cannot have earned more than $75,000 in wages or California Adjusted Gross Income. They also have to have been a California resident for at least half of 2020 and be a California resident when the payment goes out. A final requirement is to have their 2020 taxes by Oct. 15, 2021.

A previous batch of payments went out on Aug. 27, with about 600,000 people getting a direct deposit. This time around, it is estimated that 2 million Californians will receive a payment.

Those who have not set up a direct deposit with the Franchise Tax Board will have their payments mailed out starting Oct. 5.

In addition to the payments, the California budget has allocated $4 billion in grants for small businesses affected by the pandemic, as well as $5.2 billion to “help low-income renters pay 100 percent of their back-rent.”
