Jamie Spears Files Petition To End Britney Spears Conservatorship

Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has filed a petition to end the pop star’s conservatorship, according to the Associated Press.

The petition was filed at a Los Angeles Superior Court and would need approval by judge Brenda Penny, who has been assigned to the Spears’ case.

“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter,” the document says. “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.”

Spears has been under a conservatorship since 2008, and spoke to the court for the first time in June.

“I just want my life back,” Britney Spears said, as the court audio was made publicly available.

Days after Spears spoke about her experience in the conservatorship, her new attorney Mathew Rosengart filed a request for a new conservator to handle her finances, with the singer requesting her father be charged with “conservatorship abuse,” as well.

“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears’s sworn deposition in the near future,” Rosengart said.

On August 12, Jamie Spears hinted at stepping down from his co-conservatorship role, with a letter to the courts saying he wanted an “orderly transition.”
