One Killed in Deputy Shooting at Gas Station – NBC Los Angeles



One of two people who attacked a deputy responding to reports of someone lighting fires at a gas station is dead after the deputy opened fire during a struggle in Commerce, according to the sheriff’s department.

The deputy was hospitalized with an injury to the face, the sheriff’s department said. Details about the deputy’s condition were not immediately available, but he was treated for injuries and released.

The altercation was reported at about 4 a.m. in the 5700 block of Whittier Boulevard.

A deputy responding to reports of fires being set at the station was attacked by a man standing outside an SUV, the sheriff’s department said. The two were struggling on the ground when a woman, armed with a sharp object, emerged from the SUV and stabbed the deputy in the face, authorities said. 

The deputy then opened fire, striking the man and woman. The woman died at the scene.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition. Details about the weapon she used were not immediately available.
